Drive down to Pac Ngam to meet the boat that is waiting to take us to Coc Ly for the beautiful market on Tuesday where you will meet H’mong, Dzao and Phu La people. Coc Ly is wild, surrounded by forest, and could only be reached by boat or bike. We would leave the bike behind to enjoy the comfort of boating on Chay River for over 1 hour (20 km). Lunch in Coc Ly before coming back to Pac Ngam and drive up to Sapa

North West In 10 Days Motorbike Tour

Day 1: Hanoi Motorbike Tour – Vu Linh. ~180 km, ~7 h.

Easy drive to on the sealed road to Thac Ba Lake and follow the little road to Vu Linh. Vu Linh is a Dzao village by the side of the lake, very friendly people and the welcome is exceptional.

Day 2: Vu Linh Motorbike Tour – Luc Yen. ~70 km, ~2 h.

Walk around in Vu Linh to discover the area in the morning. Lunch in Mr. Boi’s family. After lunch, ride to Luc Yen in about 2 hours around the lake on small road lined by palm trees and scenic mountain views.

Day 3: Luc Yen Motorbike Tour – Bac Ha. ~130 km, ~5 h.

The 20-km drive from Luc Yen to Road 70 is quite bumpy and takes about one hour. Then sealed road again all the way to Pac Ngam, where we turn right and drive up the mountain 26 km to Bac Ha. Walk around Bac Ha for the rest of the day.

Day 4: Bac Ha Motorbike Tour – Coc Ly Motorbike Tour – Sapa. ~80 km, ~4 h.

Lunch in Coc Ly before coming back to Pac Ngam and drive up to Sapa.

In Sapa, the humidity is high and it gets colder after midnight.

Day 5: Sapa. Trekking.

Sapa is now quite touristy. However, we can trek to Ta Van village where is dominated by Giay people. We pass Lao Chai village on the way and lunch could be in Lao Chai, Ta Van, or wherever we want. The children will go together with you along the way. We stay O/N in a stilt house of Giay family, which is basic and rough.

Day 6: Sapa – Tam Duong. ~100 km, ~5 h.

Walk back to Sapa in the morning to pick up the bike and drive to Tam Duong. The distance is short but the road is narrow and lots of blind corner. However, the landscape is very beautiful with the view of Fansipan Mount.

Day 7: Tam Duong Motorbike Tour – Lai Chau. ~150 km, ~6 h.

We meet Tay, Thai, H’mong, and Mang peoples. We drive through Tam Duong plain which is covered in shark’s teeth-like limestone karst. We would visit a village of Mang people near Sin Ho.

Day 8: Lai Chau Motorbike Tour – Son La. ~200 km, ~7 h.

15 passes. Very nice road and stunning landscape. Probably the most beautiful journey of the whole trip even the road is in poor condition.

Day 9: Son La Motorbike Tour – Mai Chau. ~180 km, ~7 h.

We follow a long valley floor covered in a sea of rice surrounded by Black Thai villages with its bargain-filled market, descending into a mountainous tea-growing region and head down into a forested region populated by H’mong people before descending into the hidden valley of Mai Chau where we spend the night with friends in a traditional Thai stilt house.

Day 10: Mai Chau Motorbike Tour – Hanoi. ~165 km, ~5 h.

Trek around Mai Chau in the morning. Lunch in Mai Chau before driving back to Hanoi on karst road via Hoa Binh to Hanoi. Arrive in Hanoi around 5 pm.

    Mr. Brian Owen

    – Tempo of the tour and the stop-over: The tempo of the tour was well planned. We had plenty of time to observe the many and varied rural lifestyles as well as taking pics of the breathtaking scenery. Arriving at our accommodation with enough time to explore the surroundings before dark.
    – Bikes and equipment: The Bikes (160 Hondas) performed well. Of the 6 bikes, 1 was a bit tired and was due for a repower. Next time we will opt for the 250s as they have a bit more suspension travel, which would suit heavier riders. Our guide, Vuong, is a legend, his ability with bikes, cameras and phones was astounding. And to top that off, his people skills meant we had no language problems and he kept 5 old Aussies entertained for 10 days. (6 good mates on an incredible journey.)
    – Accommodation: Was better than expected, sit down toilets and hot showers each day. The 3 home stays were warm and friendly with very good food and cold beer, a very good way of savouring the true Vietnam. Hotels were clean and comfortable with friendly staff, the 2 days accommodation in Sapa was one of the highlights of the whole trip, a must do part of Vietnam.
    – Food: The food was varied, fresh and tasty, Vuong made sure everyone’s taste was catered for. We only drank bottled water which was available everywhere. 2 things we soon learnt: 1/ pace yourself carefully with the rice wine. 2/ never trust a fart.
    – Guide and organisation: We will return, vietnammotorbiketours.asia impressed us with their professional approach, they leave no stones unturned and obviously listen to feedback from customers. We put all our trust in them to arrange airport transfer, accommodation before, during and after the ride, and they came up trumps in all areas. If Vuong is any indication of the standard of their guides then you are in good hands all the way.
    – The price: By western standards the overall cost is very cheap, if you want a hassle free trip with a proven track record I recommend Vietnammotorbiketours.asia . Yes it could be done cheaper, if you wanted to go to Hanoi and shop around for guides, bikes, accommodation and trusted eating places, then you would still not know the level of service. We observed the middle man mark-up and were still more than happy with the cost.
